“Superb location if you want to just get away from it all” Excellent location for a crowd of folk who are interested in getting to know some remoter parts of Scotland. Brilliant for walking with dogs, enjoying fantastic scenery and eating great seafood. Weather was pretty inclement (very windy and quite a lot of rain) but it didn't stop us getting out and exploring the landscape.

“Family stay” We booked this as a place to stay for a my mums 60th birthday. We are a large family and there was plenty room for us all to stay comfortably. There are lovely views with Inverness being within easy distance if you need anything. Would happily book again and Caroline was very quick to respond to any queries.

“Room with a view” In fact every room had a wonderful view. Beautifully appointed house with supper quality finish. Five couples for the week had a wonderful time. Local couple were very helpful in organising our arrival and stay. Lovely place for our wedding reception. I told my current wife that I would properly book it for my next wedding. “The perfect place to get away from it all.” Samhach is cosy but modern, its very well equipped and ideal for a couple. Its perfectly located to explore the Highlands and the house itself is surrounded by stunning woodland. The owners were very friendly and welcoming and we are keen to come back. I'd definitely recommend it.

“Lovely break” We had a lovely stay for 2 nights. The house is beautiful. We were a group of 8 and there was more than enough room for us all. The bedrooms are lovely and the bed were very comfortable. All the bedrooms were en-suite. The living are was also beautiful and the kitchen was very well equipped. It was very cosy at night time with the log burner on. A really good location for Inverness and also Loch Lomond. We had a great time and will definitely return in the future. The owners were very friendly and helpful. We had a lovely couple of day away.

“A brilliant Highland retreat, full of character.” 6 of us travelled up from various cities on Friday afternoon to The Bunkhouse for a bank holiday escape, and we couldn't have asked for a better place. The house itself is a fantastic maze, full of character - but still perfectly clean and excellently appointed. The location couldn't have been better - a beautiful glen, we managed several walks, both down the Spey, and up the nearby hills and through the forests. We all absolutely loved our stay, and would definitely come back.

“Great location, great flat, very impressed.” As a one child(4) family a hotel room is not an option therefore a location which is central, and with 2 bedrooms and facilities that suit a 4 year is our priority. We were delighted on arrival with the quality of the Loft, it is really well furnished, the bedrooms are very comfortable and the kitchen is fully equipped. The lounge is cosy and even had some games and DVDs for our use which was a welcome change to our well worn selection. It's within walking distance of the city centre even for a 4 year old. To sum up, if you are looking for 2 bedrooms, a well equipped self catering kitchen, somewhere clean and we'll looked after and a central location for Inverness.....look no further.

“Fantastic house” This house is amazing. It is very well equipped and finished to a very high standard. Bathrooms and showers are first class. The house is extremely well insulated and is therefore very warm when you get back from a cold day out. The kitchen is very well equipped and has everything that you need to cook whatever you fancy. The location is also first class with a lovely woodland walk right on your doorstep. A short walk into the main town as well. We would definitely recommend this house.

Scottish Highlands holidays
The Scottish Highlands are among Europe's most imposing landscapes. Visitors come expecting crags and lochs, windswept mountains and deep-rooted tradition; that's exactly what they get. Venturing north of Stirling and Dundee, the intrepid traveler won't find another city until Inverness, where the legendary Loch Ness meets the Moray Firth. From there, winding roads and unspoilt vistas carry you to John O'Groats and the steely North Sea.
Highlands holiday cottages come in all shapes and sizes. If you're hoping to get closer to nature, lochside log cabins are an excellent - and economical - option. Or how about a stone cottage near the foot the UK's tallest mountain, Ben Nevis? Unless you're staying in a larger town, self catering in the Scottish Highlands is often the best option - it's unusual to get room service on a mountainside! If you're planning to stay somewhere truly remote, be sure to arrange some basic supplies beforehand.
Weird and wonderful
Without a doubt, Scotland has the UK's strangest wildlife. So strange, in fact, that it has eluded would-be monster hunters for decades. If you want to catch a glimpse of Nessie, perhaps a cruise along the vast Loch Ness, plus a tour of the crumbled Urquhart Castle, will be the ideal day out.
In the Cairngorm mountains to the south, you can walk among Britain's only herd of reindeer. You'll need a good pair of hiking boots, but the opportunity to feed them by hand is as popular with adults as it is with younger visitors.
Into the wild
Those with the stomach for adventure might consider scaling all 1,200m of Ben Nevis to reach the highest point in the country, 1,346m above sea level. You can leave your ice axes at home in summer, but it is a tough hike. Set aside a whole day to do it and savour the view from the summit.
From the highest point to the most northerly: at John O'Groats you can look out to sea from the very tip of mainland Scotland. A few miles west in Gills Bay or Scrabster, you can hop on a boat to the Orkney islands, home to thriving communities of islanders and countless wild birds. There are only a few sailings a day, so plan thoroughly if you don't intend to stay.
